Pregnancy & Postnatal Physiotherapy
Support Through Pregnancy & After Birth
Pregnancy and the postnatal period bring significant physical changes often alongside excitement, uncertainty, and adjustment.
Pregnancy and postnatal physiotherapy offers specialist, one-to-one support to help you understand what’s happening in your body, manage discomfort, and recover with greater confidence.
Whether you’re pregnant, recently postpartum, or navigating longer-term postnatal changes, support is always tailored to you and your stage of recovery.
How Pregnancy & Postnatal Physiotherapy Can Help
Pregnancy and postnatal physiotherapy may support you with:
-
back, pelvic, hip, or rib pain
-
pelvic girdle pain (PGP)
-
postural changes and muscle strain
-
pelvic floor symptoms (bladder, bowel, heaviness)
-
abdominal wall changes
-
recovery after birth (vaginal or caesarean)
-
returning to movement and exercise with confidence
Support is always individual and based on how your body is responding at this stage.
Comfort During Assessment & Treatment
Your comfort is always a priority during pregnancy.
If you wish, assessments and treatment can be supported using a Bellost pregnancy pillow, which allows you to lie comfortably face down during pregnancy. Many women find this position helps them relax and reduces strain on the back and pelvis.
Use of the pillow is entirely optional and guided by what feels most comfortable for you.
Pelvic Health & Core Support
During pregnancy and after birth, the pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, breathing, and posture all work together as a system.
Physiotherapy may include assessment and guidance around:
-
pelvic floor function
-
core coordination and control
-
breathing and posture
-
movement patterns for daily life and exercise
Any assessment or examination is always discussed with you in advance, and your consent is gained at every stage.
The focus is on supporting both strength and relaxation, depending on what your body needs

Alongside physiotherapy, I also offer a Postnatal Pilates class on Wednesdays at 10:30am with the option to stay for a cup of tea after class for 30 mins.
These classes are suitable from 6–8 weeks post-partum, depending on your delivery and once a brief health screen has been completed.
Postnatal Pilates focuses on:

gently rebuilding core and pelvic floor coordination
-
improving posture and movement confidence
-
supporting recovery after birth
-
easing back, neck, and shoulder tension
-
creating space to move in a supportive environment
Babies are very welcome and can lie next to you during the class.
Exercises are adapted to suit individual recovery needs, and the emphasis is on connection, control, and confidence — not pushing or performance.
